While I maintain the view that medals and flags are only symbols, to many they are more than that. Rightfully so. Flags, emblems and medals are a convenient means of communicating a message in that crucial, few seconds of another person's attention. There is an issue with a group from the upper Midwest who is using one of those symbols against the wishes of one of those organizations: The National League of POW/MIA Families. This group has been working long, hard and feverishly for over 40 years(!) to ensure that 1) POW-MIAs are not insensitively brushed aside like lost cargo and, 2) that POW-MIAs, their loved ones and friends have closure by returning those heroes to their Country, the USA. For this drug group (again, in my view, marijuana IS a drug, although in CERTAIN cases it may serve its purpose as a superficial medicinal application) to ignore the requests of this humanitarian organization, National League of POW/MIA Families, to stop using the POW-MIA logo (including flags, banners, emblems, etc) is not only rude, insensitive and disrespectful (of FELLOW Americans, btw!) but, ultimately, self-serving and unethical. As a Marine Viet Nam combat Veteran, I am reaching out to this individual that is at the forefront of this drug organization (Weed for Veterans) requesting that person to do the honorable thing - cease and desist from using the POW-MIA logo, the modification thereof and any related emblems, etc. As the editor said on this web site, as Marines we should all carry forward with us one of the Marine Corps' most highly valued mottoes: "Honor, Courage, Commitment." IF you (Weeds for Veterans) are a Marine Veteran, you should know well that those words have a volume of meaning behind them. Do the right thing ... it isn't helping your image one bit.
